New Song Preschool Director – Jennie Wiggins
Established in 1991 to nourish and enhance the God-given talents the children of Sandtown possess so that they may become the future leaders of their community. This program is committed to laying an early educational foundation for twelve four-year olds by providing safe and fun learning experiences in a homelike atmosphere. Students gain the readiness skills necessary for their future educational success in a values –based school culture. Each month, parents are offered free books and parenting workshops through a program called Starting With Words. New Song Preschool serves as the feeder program into New Song Academy.
New Song After-School Academy Director – Breai Mason-Campbell
Established in 1994 to provide a safe and engaging space for children to spend their hours after school, and to develop their talents and interest in the arts, sports, foreign language and social clubs in an enjoyable environment where building positive relationships is a priority. The program is offered to students in kindergarten through 8th grade. The After-School Academy provides travel and performance experiences that enhance students’ cultural awareness and scope of possibilities. The program currently has 117 students enrolled.
New Song Academy Principal – Lisa Brown
Established in 1997 as a Baltimore City Public School. New Song Academy is committed to developing moral character and raising the leadership potential of each student while providing them with a quality education. The school currently has 148 students enrolled from pre-k to 8th grade. The school features dedicated teachers, strong parent involvement, and small class sizes in a culture of empathy and caring. At New Song Academy, we believe that every child can and will learn. We believe that this is best accomplished through long-term relationships and individualized attention provided in a safe and loving environment. Upon graduating from the 8th grade, students are prepared to enter city-wide high schools or private secondary schools.
New Song College & Career Program Director – Laura Smith
Established in 2009 to help prepare high school students for entrance and matriculation through college and careers, and to equip them with the knowledge and skills to think critically and become proactive leaders. This program is offered to all high school students who graduated from New Song Academy. There are currently 28 high school and college students in the program. Participants in the program are provided with free tutoring, academic and professional workshops, guest speakers, and college tours. Students who participate in the College and Career program are eligible for a “Last dollar” scholarship from New Song to help cover their unmet financial needs for college.
